Today voters go to the polls in the Tory-held constituencies of Kingswood and Wellingborough.
Labour is predicted to win in both constituencies, increasing the number of by-elections lost under Sunak to a total of seven; almost one for every two months he's had in office.
The Wellingborough by-election was called after former Conservative MP Peter Bone was suspended after allegations of bullying and sexual misconduct. While in Kingswood - a constituency set to be abolished under new constituency boundaries - the by-election was triggered by Chris Skidmore's resignation over Sunak's plans to pursue new oil and gas licenses in the North Sea.
Naomi Smith, CEO of Best for Britain and founder of tactical voting website, GetVoting.org said,
“While reports suggest the Conservatives have all but given up in these by-elections, the results could mask a much closer race at a General Election with higher turnout, changing boundaries, large numbers of undecided voters and the likelihood of Reform UK standing aside to help vulnerable Conservative candidates.
“At a General Election, tactical voting in seats like these could be the difference between a narrow loss and electoral armageddon for Rishi Sunak and decide the political future of notable Conservatives like Jacob Rees Mogg and Grant Shapps.”
